A Canadian Curriculum, Taught in Abu Dhabi

Maplewood follows the Alberta Curriculum from Canada, one of the most respected early years frameworks in the world. It is built on a simple idea: young children learn best when they are active participants in their own learning, not passive recipients of it. Rather than drilling facts into children, our educators prepare rich environments, notice what each child is curious about, and build the learning around it.

In practice, that means a day full of purposeful play. A water tray becomes an early lesson in volume and cause and effect. A shared story becomes vocabulary, listening, and empathy. Building with blocks becomes counting, balance, negotiation, and the patience to start again when the tower falls down.

The Areas We Grow Together

The Alberta framework looks at the whole child, not academics alone. Across our four stages, from Toddler through to Pre-K, our educators plan around these areas of development:

  • Language and early literacy
  • Numeracy and problem solving
  • Creative and artistic expression
  • Physical development and movement
  • Social and emotional wellbeing
  • Curiosity and independent thinking
  • Confidence and self-expression
  • Readiness for the next school step

How We Teach It

Led by Observation, Not a Script

Our educators observe how each child plays and learns, then plan the next steps around what they see. Learning is documented and shared with you, so the picture you get of your child is a real one rather than a report card.
